Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers’ Cooperatives Union – Acronym YCFCU, was established in June 2002 for which shortly after, was registered as a cooperative society with its proclamation (No. 147/1998). The union started with 13 member organizations. At the moment, these primary cooperatives were established to serve as a political weapon for the Dergue Regime. These 13 Cooperatives continuously faced interference from the then government as well as other organizing agencies, in their resources and finances and were always exploited and worked under harsh conditions of corruption. After the downfall of the past regime, the primary cooperatives ceased their operations as the socialist model had worn out. The company was founded back in 1902 by wholesaler Peter Larsen, who runs retail business from premises in the center of Viborg. After a few years in retail, the idea of ??becoming a wholesaler came. This was the start of the wholesale business, and relocation to larger premises on the main street in Viborg. In 1929, Asmund Thorsen stepped in, primarily to handle the coffee roasting itself. The wholesale business developed over the years and in 1933 Peter Larsen died, after which Asmund Thorsen took over the company and turned this into a public limited company. In 1966, his son-in-law Kaj Bertelsen entered the age of 22 and daughter Kirsten Bertelsen at the age of 20 in the firm. This was the start of an expansion for the company, which moved from the city center to the industrial area in Viborg’s west city.

Mullege’s inception began in 1953 by Awel who had a great vision, but with little means to fulfill it.Awel began a small coffee supplier to exporters business and educated his son, Mustafa, who used to unilaterally negotiate prices with farmers to sell to exporters by using donkeys as transportation in the early 1970s. Mustafa’s sagacious business approach allowed the business to blossom, and by 1996, Mullege went from a small supplier to an exporter with fully loaded coffee containers. ABOUT CAPE HORN COFFEES Founded in 1995, Cape Horn Coffees, Inc. (“CHC”) is an importer and wholesaler of green (unroasted) coffee into North America.
